Coaching a sports team can be a lot of fun, but it also requires hard work and a heavy dose of patience. Even if you are naturally gifted in sports, coaching children might not be quite as easy as you first expected. Whether you are working with preschool T-ball, elementary softball, or teenage football, there are several things you need to remember when coaching children.
First, remember that every word counts. You never know the weight of the words you say to a child so choose them carefully. Children come from all kinds of backgrounds and it might not always be obvious what kind of challenges they are facing. Even the rough and tumble kids could be fearful on the inside, so you should be sensitive to these things on the playing field. You don’t have to baby your players, but you should choose your words wisely so you will build up confidence rather than inflict shame or embarrassment on the kids.
Second, keep things simple. When you are teaching five year old boys how to play football, it isn’t time to test out your Madden football plays. These little guys just need to know the basics. Teach them how to run with the football. Practice passing the ball back and forth or kicking it through the goal posts. Teach them the difference between defense and offense, but don’t get too complicated or you will lose their interest.
Third, lead by example. Kids often learn a concept better when you show them instead of tell them. Instead of saying “Run to first base!” during the first practice, tell the kid to follow you and run to first base ahead of them. Show the players how to do the things you are asking of them so they can adequately understand how it should look. They don’t have decades of ESPN to use as a reference for sports terms, so show them what you mean.
Coaching kids is very rewarding if you keep these things in mind. Sometimes coaches can touch a child’s life in a way that no other person ever could. Be mindful of your influence and treat every child with love and kindness. That is the key to being a successful coach for children.

First, you need to gauge the interest of the people in your community. Do a survey of your neighbors and ask them if what kind of sports they would be most interested in playing. Find out which age groups would like to play and poll how many men and women would actually enroll if you started the league. Send a survey home with each child (ask the principal to approve it first!) and then come back the next day to collect the parents’ responses. If your coaches will be working with children, it is vital that you do a criminal background check on every single one – no exceptions! Safety should always come first. Once you have your coaching staff lined up, it’s time to create a schedule.
Creating a season schedule can be difficult, but with a little creativity you can make it work. Pick two nights of the week for each team to practice. The weekend is the best time to schedule all games so that you will have a larger crowd in attendance. Line up locations for each practice and game and print master copies to give out with player enrollments.

Winter is just around the corner. You can smell the wood burning in the air, the cold air kissing your face and you have the urge to find your wool socks. With winter approaching what things do you enjoy doing? Are you an indoor keep me warm by the fire type or are you the get me out in the cold and let me feel alive kind of person?
Well if you are one to get out and brave the cold or if you would like to see what all the fuss is about then what could you possible want to go do? Let’s take a look at a couple of winter sports to give a try.
Snow tubing. Snow tubing is pretty fun and not expensive. You’ll feel like a kid again. It sounds just like you think. You have a big intertube that you sit in or lie on and allow gravity to take you on a fun adventure down a snowy hill. Get brave and take a running start.
Ice Skating is a fun family affair. You don’t have to have to wait for a frozen solid lake or pond to go ice-skating and I would not recommend that anyway but there are many ice skating rinks around. Bundle up the kiddos and lace up some skates. It’s fun and a great form of exercise.
There’s always snow skiing as well. Get your snow bibs on and grab your skis. Racing down the powder is exhilarating. With each down hill slop you find peace with the world. And if skiing doesn’t end up being your thing the hanging out in the ski lodge is pretty fun too.

The 24 Hours in LeMans – Every year, in June, this international race draws thousands of tourists to the town of LeMans in France. The race begins at 4pm and continues with roaring engines and excitement for the next 24 hours. 46 cars, of a surprising amount of variety, start the race and wind around 8 miles of French countryside. The goal of the team of three drivers is to see who can cover the greatest distance during the 24 hour period.
The Super Bowl – As American as apple pie, the Super Bowl draws a record television crowd every year. While these days people watch the Super Bowl almost as much for the commercials as for the actual football game, for any true sports enthusiast the main event is the championship game where the winner hopes to hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy at the end of the game.
The NBA Finals – Even with a labor issue shortened season this year the NBA Finals will likely draw record crowds as the top 16 teams in basketball battle it out to see who will be left standing. With best of seven series every round there are surprises every year with major upsets and matchups that last to pivotal Game 7s.

Living on the water is a lot of fun. There are tons of activities that you can do on the lake, from swimming and fishing to water skiing or snorkeling. To get the most from your waterfront home, make sure you have properly prepared your tracksystem for summer. With watersports in mind, you can get your dock ready to host summer parties, backyard barbecues, and midnight fishing marathons. Here are some tips to help you prepare for summer.
First, make sure your dock is in good working condition. Most track systems will last for years, but you should examine it each spring to make sure that it is still secure and the height is correct for the water level. You might need to adjust the dock’s height each year if the water level varies. If you find that your dock is in bad shape, talk to local dock builders to see if it can be repaired. If not, you will need to replace it. Don’t take a chance with safety. Make sure the dock is in good shape before your first summer party.
Second, take time to do some landscaping. Plant some fragrant flowers, mow the grass, and get rid of weeds. I drive a truck for a living, transporting crops from large farms to the big city where they are processed and sold.
